Share the love: Family-friendly Valentine's Day activities to enjoy at home
February 13, 2018
Valentine's Day is almost here. While this heart-filled celebration is often centered on romantic endeavors, family love is just as important. Baker Residential has suggestions for family-friendly Valentine's Day activities to enjoy at home, so you can share the love.
This game is like an Easter Egg Hunt, but you'll go "looking for love". Hide little packets of candy hearts or make paper hearts with your own loving messages. Give each player a basket or unbreakable container to gather their treasures. If you want to make clues, use messages like "Where do you love to go for your quiet time?" and "Look for the most cherished family memories."
Make paper hearts and encourage everyone in the household to write "One Thing I Love About You" for every other person. Each heart should contain just one "thing". Younger children can draw a picture of what they love about each family member (and don't forget the pets!). Collect these heartfelt messages for a few days before Valentine's Day. Then get everyone together, take turns pulling out a message and reading one at a time. It's a great way for everyone to feel special.
Get the popcorn and movie treats, and pick some family movies about love, like "Lady and the Tramp", "Beauty and the Beast", "Shrek", "Enchanted", "The Little Mermaid", "Tangled", and "WALL-E". If your kids are a bit beyond these movies, try "Pride and Prejudice", "The Princess Bride", "You've Got Mail", and "Sabrina" (preferably the original with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn). Make a batch of Valentine's Day popcorn by adding candy hearts, red and pink sprinkles and M&Ms.
Teach everyone how to say "I love you" in other languages. Make flash cards with the phrase on the front and the language on the back. If you're feeling ambitious, add a map that shows where the language is spoken. Here's a list of "I love you" in 100 languages, and in sign language.
Plan a Valentine's Day menu together, with family favorites. Then top it off with a special dessert, like maybe a Valentine's dirt cake parfait (yummier than it sounds), hidden heart loaf cake, chocolate-covered Oreo pops, chocolate-dipped strawberries, or red velvet blossom cookies. Go to Pinterest.com if you're at a loss for ideas.
Make Valentine's Day cards for people in nursing homes and hospitals. Take your kids to deliver them on Valentine's Day so these people know that someone is thinking of them!
No matter how you decide to share the love this Valentine's Day, everyone at Baker Residential wishes you a day of kindness and appreciation.
